Business mobile users recently received a reassuring pledge from one of the UK’s largest networks. EE have promised to increase its 4G coverage from 60% of the UK to 95% by 2020. The aim is to get rid of all the mobile ‘not-spots’ and increase connectivity for all.

EE was recently purchased by telecommunications giant BT and it is believed the parent company will be putting money forward for EE’s network expansion. The cost is currently estimated at £1bn. Unlike other measurements which focus on the population reached, EE is aiming to introduce 4G signals to 95% of the UK landmass. It will need to build another 750 masts throughout the UK to achieve its ambition.

Mobile phones need to be in range of a network mast in order to have any signal. Extending the network will mean more areas are covered by EE’s high speed data services. This could have very positive long-term effects on businesses throughout the UK.

Having a larger network will mean organisations of all sizes can connect to their staff, clients and suppliers no matter where they are in the country. Not only will this increase communication levels, it will also lead to a boost in business productivity.

Fourth generation networks don’t just power making and receiving phone calls, they also offer a data service. This means that some areas of the country will receive high speed internet for the very first time. It creates new opportunities for remote working and it will also mean mobile emails can be read even in traditionally low signal areas. This will increase mobile usability for all businesses and business mobile phones will be a key area of investment for the future.

It is expected that many businesses will now look to other networks and see how they respond. If other networks fail to introduce a similar level of coverage they should expect an exodus of customers. Mobile communication is a key aspect of modern day trading and if one network can outperform the others to this extent, it will become the first choice for those who rely on the internet to go about their business.

Swift Communications welcomes this news but its partnerships with all the major UK networks will ensure your business mobiles are always connected to the very fastest signal. Contact one of our dedicated account managers to discover the best business mobile deals.
